The closest international airport is Hamburg (HAM).
From Hamburg Airport you can take the airport bus "Kielius", which makes the trip between Hamburg Airport and Kiel up to 19 times daily. The bus stops at a clearly marked location directly outside the airport terminal. The schedule and prices can be found here.
Moreover, there are a couple of airport shuttles running, among these:

You can also take the S-Bahn (rapid transit) from the airport to "Hamburg Hauptbahhof" and transfer to a train to Kiel from there. You can buy one ticket for the complete trip. See

By ferry: Passenger ferries to Sweden (Gotheburg), Norway (Oslo) and Lithuania (Klaipeda) operate from Kiel, see here.
How to get from the main train station / hotel Berliner Hof to B&B hotel / math department:
Bus 91 goes every 20 minutes directly from the main station (100m from hotel Berliner Hof) to the university. Get off at station "Rankestraße", which is 150m from B&B hotel and 200m from the math department.
You can also take the lines 50, 51, 60S, 61, 62 and 81 from Central Station in the direction "Universität". Get off at bus stop "Universität" or "Universität/Westring", see www.nah.sh/en for more details.
